Mountain View, Calif. (March 6, 2020) — Bruce Barsi is one of the recipients of the volunteer of the year award given by Mountain View Chamber of Commerce at their annual Celebration of Leaders Dinner.
Each year, the Mountain View Chamber of Commerce honors companies, non-profits, and individuals who have made exceptional contributions and service to the Mountain View Community in a festive dinner and awards presentation. MVPSF is honored to celebrate one of our board members, Bruce Barsi.

Bruce Barsi was born and raised in Los Altos and has had a life of service in the Mountain View area. He is a St. Francis alum and started serving his community in 1977 as a police officer. He twice, has served as President to the Peace Officers Association. While at MVPD, he moved up the ranks and served as a Captain from 1999 to 2007. He also became involved with the Youth Services Unit and PAL.
Bruce volunteered with PAL through the Junior High soccer league and also received the National Youth Officer of the Year award from the California Youth Authority.
Bruce helped develop the annual Cops & Gobblers Thanksgiving food drive program with Steve Mellow 22 years ago and has been co-chair of the program since 1999. The program now delivers over 400 food baskets to families in Mountain View.
Bruce is a dedicated person who serves the community and the underserved. He has been in Mountain View Rotary since 2000 and served as Secretary and twice as President. He served on the Community Health Awareness Council (CHAC) board for 16 years and was President and Project Manager for building transition.
He has been involved with the Challenge Team since 1999 and has chaired the Gang Task Force, and Challenge Bike Ride. He has also received the Challenge Team Champion for Youth and John Gardner awards.
He is a member and past Chair of the Mountain View Los Altos Community Roundtable for evaluating college scholarship requests and is a Leadership Mountain View Alumni 2001.
Bruce currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Mountain View Public Safety Foundation and helps to make our communities and better and safer place in which to work and live.
